Please
don't believe all the hype you read about making gold. Obviously, you need the
money to compete, but there are very few easy, little effort ways of getting
the gold you need. Save your real money and do not waste it buying
unnecessary guides. All the information you need is obtainable through this website
and your Guild. Through experience you will have discovered good locations
for picking up profitable items. You will know that your high-level toon can go
back to certain locations and easily “farm” items you can sell at the Auction
House (AH) for profit. There is a good add-on called Auction Master which you
can download from Curse. I now use the Curse
Client for automatically updating my downloads. Auction
Master will take some getting used to but should help you in finding out what
sells and for how much. The market prices vary from server to server. There is
not one WoW market price.
Back to
“farming”... one of
the things you can do is go back to Dungeons you completed at lower levels to
pick up some profitable items for sale in the AH, but be careful. You must
remember these are full of “elite” monsters and that if you are not
considerably higher ranked you will die easily. It may be more profitable and
less wearing to farm Reagents, which are always in demand. WoWWiki gives a
good guide to the various locations. Farming only really becomes
worthwhile at max level.
I also
have another site for you to look at: - WoW-Professions.com gives an excellent
guide on where to find the resources you need. Please ignore his
money-making links though. Remember max rank in 5 days really means 24 hours x
5, which in reality equates to a lot more than a few days of play. Assuming of
course that you need to eat, sleep, work or study!
The farming tips are very helpful and will save you so much time
in levelling your professions and provide you with a way of making good
gold.
Another
little tip is not to buy all the Profession recipes. Only buy what you
need to rank up your skill level and for your characters' needs; and what will
sell for good money in the Auction House.
Guilds
Right from the start you need to join a very high ranked guild, the
guild maximum level is 25, for the buffs you will get and can purchase from the
Guild vendors found in Stormwind and Ogrimmar. Ask the guards for
directions.
Here's the Ogrimmar link... WoWHead . Scan that list and
you will find a tabard that will increase your guildreputation gain, and battle standards that will increase the
rate you gain experience; one by as much as 15%, but only during usage and
within a radius. The bad news is that you cannot buy until you have
sufficient gold, have the relevant guild reputation and achieved whatever requirement
is required. The good news is that the tabard binds to your account, meaning it
stays with you and can be transferred and used by all your characters.
The original idea behind guilds was a helpful noble one, but nowadays
they do not really cater for the needs of the new player. If you have real
life friends playing the game I would suggest that you form your own soon after
getting the above buffs. There need to be at least four of you and you
will need 10 gold to purchase the guild charter but do bear in mind that you
will lose the Guild buffs you have gained, until your Guild has reached the
appropriate levels to have that bonus.
As a guild, you will find it easier to progress and communicate in-game
with each other. As a group, you will also be able to take on different
classes and professions. With your professions, you will be able to help
each other out and exchange items as a form of barter. This should make life a
lot easier and cheaper :-)
Also, look up the Guild add-ons available through Curse. One available
is an in-game forum, which makes communication very easy. SuperGuildInvite
allows you to invite people to your guild just by simply running it. I
also think Guild recruitment earns you guild experience, although I have seen
nothing to confirm this. Let me know what you learn from trying this. You will
only be able to recruit if the Guild Master has enabled the function for you.
Gems
Did you know you can improve your toons abilities by placing gems in
equipment (clothing and weapons) sockets? Well, yes you can. PvP and PvE play
have different requirements. Only higher end gear can be gemmed. If you have
the Jewelcrafting profession you will be able to make your own. I used to have links to a couple of useful websites, but like a number of WoW sites they are now no more!
Reforging
When your toon reaches the level where its gear is at or above 200, you can
reforge a percentage of one of the secondary stats on the gear for another
stat. Do not do this as just a matter of course though. Make sure you know what
the best stats are for your class first. It could be that some gear is
as good as it needs to be. There is no point in changing from, say, Mastery to
Haste on a piece of gear and then doing the opposite on another piece. You will
find the Arcane Reforger in capital cities. The precise location is best found
by asking a guard for directions. When ranking up it seems to me to be
pointless to be constantly reforging gear. So, save money and only use on
top end gear.
Best
Advice for PvE and PvP Play
For PvP
advice the best free site out there, as far as I am concerned, is Icy-Veins . All you want to know
about equipping and playing PvP with your chosen class is here. The
Blizzard official forums are usually very poor, although you do occasionally
get some input from good players. There was a very good Blood DK PvP guide
(pre MoP) on there, whereas Arena Junkies concentrates on just Frost and
UnHoly.
The best
site for PvE is Icy-Veins.
You will not like the fact that it is necessary to gear your class in different
gear for PvE and PvP at higher-end play. At that level players using gear
without enough resilience in PvP will not last very long; and similarly, solely
clad PvP players will not last long in Heroic Dungeons because they will not be
wanted, as their damage and defensive stats will be poor. It is wise not to
annoy people by competing without excellent gear and these two sites will
emphasise the point.
Dungeon
and Heroic Dungeon Guides
Forget
the Blizzard Dungeon guides, they really are worthless. The best sites I have
found are these:
It is
imperative that you read up on how to play the higher-level dungeons, because
you will be very unpopular if you do not. They are far more demanding than the
dungeons you are familiar with and getting killed is easy if you do not follow
the advice.
Other
Ways of Improving Your Play
You may
want to look at using a better mouse, keyboard etc. Although a lot of people
get by on just the basics some people use programmable gaming keyboards and
mice (such as the Belkin n52te).
I'm not making a recommendation, only pointing out a possible way of improving
your game play.
Too Long, Did not Read Level-up Quickly Guide
- Quest to max level to rank up, while queuing for random dungeons
- Do not bother with production professions until after max level, but do have two gathering professions for an XP boost.
- Immediately join a high ranked guild for buffs, some of these give experience gains
- Purchase guild vendor buffs, when they become available, to speed up experience gains (note usage details)
- At max level buy Heirlooms for your next character
- Buy potions to boost XP gains (will be expensive for new players)
- Repeat processes 1 to 6 for your new characters. Heirlooms are bound to your account and can be passed back and forth through the post.
Following my guidance will greatly speed up your levelling and with
heirloom geared characters you will easily be levelling at least 50% faster.
The first character will of course not have the benefits of heirlooms and its
rate of progression will be slower than your later ones, but with my advice you
will still level faster than most new players.
It's worth
remembering that without the information in this guide it would have taken you a
lot longer to progress. If you encourage your friends to start playing WoW
you can get a huge XP boost for your character. Blizzard advertises this widely.
